As I reflect on my experience as a MISL Intern at The Ohio State University, one word comes to mind: grateful. I am incredibly grateful and humbled by the opportunities that allowed me to grow as a professional and as an individual. I met fellow interns who will be forever connected to me in some way, shape, or form. I met staff and faculty members who donated their time to make my experience worthwhile. And, I was able to conquer the big, bad, and intimidating OSU. Despite the immense size of the institution, I found my niche and made Columbus my own community.
Honestly. Words cannot express my love for the people that I have met, whether they were colleagues, administrators, OSU students, or complete strangers. It seemed like almost everyone was eager to meet with me or help me along my journey at OSU. I developed a network of people who will continue to be in my life so long as I put in effort to do so. It was strange having to make my rounds to say “see you later” (NOT GOODBYE), and the toughest part was saying this to my housemates. I wasn’t the last to leave, but it was bittersweet giving everyone hugs before I left the Hanley House.
It’s been a few weeks since the internship ended on May 19th, and it still hasn’t hit me yet. I mean, I know that the internship has ended and we are all moving on to amazing things. We have an Americore scholar, a Resident Director, an Assistant Hall Director, a researcher for Michigan State University, and a bunch of rising seniors with the conviction of making THE LAST YEAR the BEST YEAR at our respective institutions! We are continuing to do remarkable things, which is probably why my emotions haven’t hit me yet. With a month to take the GRE’s, visit graduate schools, and prepare for my study abroad excursion to Spain. . . I just don’t have the time to be sad! I have so much to look forward to, and I feel more confident in the professional field of Higher Education and Student Affairs because the internship prepared me well. I don’t have time to be sad because I will see everyone again . . . as in next week as I visit institutions in New York and Ohio as part of the Huong Tour! While this may be my last blog as Honorary Buckeye for the summer, I left as a Buckeye for a lifetime.
